Spring has arrived

Spring has arrived

After a very wet and windy start to 2020 spring has finally arrived at Hadlow.  The snowdrops and daffodils are in flower across the site along with the first blossom from the crab apple trees.

We’ve welcomed volunteers from Wallasey and West Divisions over the last two months who’ve been tackling the ivy that had overgrown many parts of Orchard wall and have given Orchard Shelter a deep clean and re-paint.  We’ve also been busy in the cottage with the installation of a new double glazed backdoor, new notice boards and our brightly colour blinds going up. The renovation works are continuing into Orchard shelter with new look for the inside underway which will brighten up the space and truly bring nature in to view.

Volunteers have also been hard at work in the nature garden creating a welcoming environment for the insects, birds, mammals and amphibians of Hadlow. For cottage users Orchard Shelter will once again become the perfect place to observe the progression of spring in to summer.  Across on the other side of Orchard our D of E volunteers have been busy tending our strawberry patch, preparing the veg garden for potato planting with the first early’s already in!

Our Fairy Trail Gang – ‘Gnome Home Construction plc’ have been painting and varnishing, making fairy picnic tables and preparing for the fairies arrival in April.  We’ll need a few more helping hands over Easter Weekend as we commence Fairy Trail construction, keep an eye out on our social media pages for more details.

Don’t forget if you have an hour or two to spare on the first Saturday of the month you’re welcome to join us at a Volunteer Working Party where there are an assortment of indoor and outdoor jobs to do.  For our next working party on Saturday April 4th we’ll be focusing on hedge planting so if you can spare an hour please do come down.
